Your site looks perfectly fine, and your security plugins say “all clear.” But looks can be deceiving. We recently faced this reality with a client—a reminder that just because you can’t see a problem doesn’t mean it isn’t there.

🚩 Red Flag: A visitor received a "Verify You Are Human" prompt when clicking on a link within our clients email newsletter - and spoke out (thank goodness). The link triggered an alert to her IT department, but for personal users not on a network, that would not have been the case.

🕵️‍♂️ Finding the Problem: Securi helped us uncover malware affecting the entire site, potentially harming visitors.

Cybercriminals are increasingly using fake CAPTCHA pages to trick users into executing malicious scripts on their devices. These deceptive CAPTCHAs mimic trusted services like Google and Cloudflare, creating a false sense of security.

❗When users follow the given instructions—such as pressing certain key combinations—they unknowingly trigger malware downloads like Lumma Stealer, which can steal sensitive information.

🔍 Recent reports indicate a rise in website compromises, using fake CAPTCHAs to spread malware.

How to Stay Safe:
✅ Be wary of unexpected CAPTCHA prompts—especially those asking for unusual actions (like pressing specific keys).
✅ Keep your device security software up to date to detect and prevent infections.
✅ Stay informed about the latest phishing tactics and malware threats.

⚠️ If you encounter a suspicious CAPTCHA, do NOT follow its instructions. Instead, close the site immediately and run a security scan on your device.
